Michaela’s room makeover ~ Planning stage

So we have finally have come to the point where we are ready to start on her room….what a HUGE delay. I was supposed to have this done a year ago!

We are going to finish ripping out all her carpet and repainting the walls first. We already have the paint. She wants a mix of pink and purple so 2 walls will be pink and 2 walls will be purple. Part of the wall will have that magnetized paint under it so she can hang posters with magnets..not tacs, no gummy stuff, no tape…yay!

The next step will be her bed. Because of her room size, we are going to build her a loft bed. I found and fell in love with Ana White’s site, Knock off Wood. I have been reading and having so many ideas for over a year because of her site.

So back to the bed! This is the one I’m going to build. (Picture is courtesy of Ana’s site). You can check out the project plan by clicking the picture.

So why build it instead of buying it? Pottery barn has a bed exactly like it….

…for $1800….’nuff said about that. I should be able to build it for about $200 for the bed part alone.  It will also be painted pink and purple despite my protest but it’s her bed.

We will be adding a bookshelf like the one on the right but we will put it on the outside of the bed. It’s not needed for support and we decided she wanted the extra room under the bed to play. Instead of the book shelf on the right, we will have either a shallower shelf or just a few floating shelves. Instead of the desk, we will have a foldable table. Basically it will lay against the wall when not in use and when she wants the table, she can set it up.

This space will be her fashion design area.

We are going to hang a string of lanterns all around the inside with these little cute lanterns. They are about 3inches each.

So that’s it’s for now! The planning is the fun part..as well as the end…the middle part, not so much… ; )

If you need me, I’ll be ripping carpet, cleaning and trying to figure out where to put all her crap stuff while we are painting the walls.

Oh, that will be great! I bet M is really excited.

Question about the magnetic paint: will it interfere with a computer nearby?

I don’t know…I don’t think so..maybe I can bring my laptop by the fridge one day and see…lol. It doesn’t affect our phones at all. I doubt the magnetism is really that strong.
