Today’s lesson deals with jealousy. When I was younger, I was envious of people who had a big house, nice cars or nice things. But after a while, I learned that it really doesn’t matter, the house isn’t what’s going to make me happy. It’s who is inside it that does: my family. It doesn’t matter where we are, as long as I have them, I’m happy and good to go.
I don’t struggle with jealousy anymore but I used to, big time. In the end, the only thing accomplished was that I was sad, moaning, whining….not pretty.
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, are confusion and every evil thing there. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace” ~ James 3:16-18
I love the fact that they talk about legitimate jealousy. Jealousy when your spouse’s heart has strayed. God is jealous when it comes to us..when we stray. It reminded me of this verse and a song:
“For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.” ~ Deuteronomy 4:24
