I liked today’s lesson and it hit home. Mike’s told me before that I’m sometimes nicer to other people than I am to him and it’s true. Sometimes, we get wrapped up about how we are supposed to “look” in front of others. “Oh no! What are they going to think of me?” I’ve done it many many times and in the end, your family is what gets short changed.
We have dogs and they always greet me at the door, butt wiggle and all! From training the dogs and making sure they know their place, I know they have to come last so I greet Mike and MJ first if they are home. Even with that though, sometimes it was just a “hey….” Mike always greets me with an upbeat voice and I know it makes me feel great. I started to do the same several weeks ago actually. And I’ll even go and open the door if I hear the car door closing. I think it has made a huge difference for him and for me.
I didn’t really change anything in my greeting because I’m actually already doing this. I go to the door, open it for Mike and see if he needs help with whatever errand I had sent him on. I hope he knows that what I’m doing is telling him that I’m happy he’s home and that he has my undivided attention.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” ~ Philippians 2:3-4
