So I have been dying to make a starburst/sunburst mirror for a long time. I’ve seen so many variations and so many tutorials.
Some have frames, some don’t. Some have additional small mirrors on the bursts.
After looking through Google, I decided to make mine with a frame. I loved the frame that they used over at the Lettered Cottage.
So I went to Michael’s and Joann’s and they had no frame mirrors ..I at 7pm, I found myself in Hobby Lobby, trying to convince myself to not visit the cross stitch aisle and stay focused on the task at hand. And I did it! * high five*
If you go when Hobby Lobby or the other stores are having a sale, you can get this really cheap. The mirror was originally 20$. I had to go out and buy more dowels. I needed 3 packs total. They are 12″ long. I didn’t use the gorilla glue, I was going to and the whole moisten the surfaces…yeah no.
The good thing about this mirror-frame is that the mirror comes out. Yay for easy spray panting!! I used silver spray paint.
I didn’t use a glue gun…I regretted that. I used E6000 glue and it took a while to glue. I had to hold the dowels in place. I started doing it on my craft trays but I regretted not using the table once I realized the glue wasn’t drying. Now, any normal person would have just moved the whole thing but because I am stubborn, I kept going where I was.
The smallest dowels I just cut in half. The other ones I just took about 1.5-2″ off.
And I left it there….for an agonizing 24hours (almost). I spray painted both sides of the dowels silver as well.
And now it’s hanging above my fireplace. I know the brick is white..but one day it will be refaced and it will pop more. This is a very slow going processs but one day, I plan to have a mantle and the stupid white brick covered. I am not a fan. Maybe it’s because I’ve been staring at this wall for the last 6 years.
The OCD in me is telling me that it’s not quite even all the way around and evenly spaced. * Trying to ignore *
